Areas: music paintings portraits sketches
Following on from last year I’ve been doing a 'sketch report' on each event that I attended at Belfast’s 14th Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival.
This ‘sketch report’ is on the awe-inspiring Neil Cowley Trio that I saw last Friday in the Black Box, Belfast. Even if you are not into jazz I bet you’d like these guys.
The sketches were made at the gig with the paintings made the following day.

Areas: music paintings portraits sketches
Over the past few weeks I’ve been doing a sketch report on each event that I attended at Belfast’s 13th Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival.
This sketch report, the final of four, is on the dynamic Jazz trio PHRONESIS. Of the four gigs I felt this would be the easiest to sketch, but I was proved wrong by the captivating and vigorous drumming of Anton Eger.
The sketches were made at the gig with the painting made the following day.

Over the past few weeks I’ve been doing a sketch report on each event that I attended at Belfast’s 13th Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival.
This sketch report, the third of four, is on the ‘cannot help my feet from moving’ Hackney Colliery Band . From start to finish the talent and rhythmic grooves of the Hackney Colliery Band enchanted the crowd as they paraded through the Black Box.

Over the past two weeks I’ve been doing a sketch report on each event that I attended at Belfast’s 13th Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival.
This sketch report, the second of four, is on the awesome funk band The Haggis Horns; if you missed the first one on Shigeto you can see it here.
The sketch was made at the gig with the paintings made the following day.

Last night I was at the Crescent Arts Centre to hear the launch of the Mark McKnight’s most recent album “Do or Die”, which I designed the album cover for.
With Ross Stanley on the organ, Mark Mcknight on guitar, John Maddren on the drums and Seamus Blake on the saxophone it was an enjoyable night of jazz.
Below are some brush and ink sketches I did at the evening.

I was recently commissioned to illustrate a new tee shirt design for the Scottish band Little Doses, based upon the Electro-Harmonix Big Muff guitar pedal.
If you want one of these you can buy either a white on red or a cyan on black tee shirt at the Little Doses store.

At this years Ulster Bank Belfast Festival at Queens I managed to get down and sketch the first night of Mark McKnight’s Organ Quartet in the ‘Belfast Barge’, which was a tad cold but very atmospheric.
With Ross Stanley on the organ, Mark Mcknight on guitar, John Maddren on the drums and Seamus Blake on the saxophone it was a great night of standards and a few of Mark’s past and present compositions.
