Last night I was doing some live street art in the Ulster Museum as part of the opening of Victoria and Albert Museum, London touring exhibition of Street Art and Tags not Labels an exhibition showcasing selected local artists Fritz, KVLR, DOC and Lucas through large gallery installations alongside photographs of art in Belfast’s urban landscape.

As last night was a closed exhibition I’ll be doing another demonstration this Saturday at the Ulster Museum from 1pm till 4pm that is open to everyone and is free.

I’ve named the demonstration “Something out of nothing” as I will be revealing my approach of manipulating existing artwork to transform it into something new. I hope to see you there.

Below I’ve included some sketches and photos of the final piece ‘dead on’.

I had decided to do another landscape / head combination, but with a Belfast slant. I liked the flat cap on the right hand character.. © Copyright David McClelland 2011. All rights reserved

I decided that the pipe character was the stronger of the two and liked the idea of something coming out of the pipe forming the letters of a Belfast colloquialism like ‘so it is’.. © Copyright David McClelland 2011. All rights reserved

Finally, when messing around with the smoke letters I decided that the phrase ‘dead on’ would be better as its triangular shape would fit into the composition better.. © Copyright David McClelland 2011. All rights reserved
