Last weekend I decided to take up the challenge of doing a sketch report on the Belfast Roller Derby. As an all female sport that has slowly been gaining momentum in Belfast I figured it’d be an interesting subject to draw.

Areas: music paintings portraits sketches
Following on from last year I’ve been doing a 'sketch report' on each event that I attended at Belfast’s 14th Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival.
This ‘sketch report’ is on the awe-inspiring Neil Cowley Trio that I saw last Friday in the Black Box, Belfast. Even if you are not into jazz I bet you’d like these guys.
The sketches were made at the gig with the paintings made the following day.

Areas: exhibitions for sale textiles
Next Thursday night (21st March) at 7-9pm, The ReFound building opens its doors to Belfast showcasing its latest collection: ’50 Shades of Grey’; a collection of restyled one-off pieces by local artists and makers.
For this collection I up-styled 3 teak dining room chairs, which I’ve named ‘silent foxes’. The silent fox design came from my desire to compliment the natural colour of the wood with a visual that would hint towards a forest.
The RRP of each chair is £120.00 (GBP). If you are interested in buying the chairs you can either visit the Refound building –7 Wellington Place, Belfast, BT1 8GB (opening hours: thurs-sat. 10-5pm) or contact Jill O’Neill directly via email - jill@refoundonline.com or phone- +44(0)78 1134 2444.
I’ve also uploaded a post: Silent Foxes the making of where you can view the process of how I up-styled the chairs.

As part of Refound’s most recent collection I up-styled 4 teak dining room chairs, which I named ‘silent foxes’.

Below I’ve included pictures of the processes I went through to create the ‘silent fox’ chairs.

I always take my sketchbook with me, especially exhibitions.
I was recently in Edinburgh over Christmas and managed to get to the Scottish National Portrait Gallery to see their collection along with the BP Portrait Award 2012 exhibition.
Not only where the portraits fantastic but the people looking at the exhibition and the building itself where also as fascinating.
Incidentally the call for entries for the BP Portrait Award 2013 closes on Monday 11th February; so get painting if you fancy entering.

I think autumn is the most beautiful time of year with its colours of yellow, orange, scarlet and red dominating the landscape.
Below I’ve included a recent painting inspired by the autumnal colours along with a speed painting video of how I painted it.

Areas: making of sketches street art
Back at the end of August I was invited to do another street art piece as part of the Kings of Concrete
four day urban art and sports festival, held at the Hanover Quay, Dublin.
Below I’ve included some sketches, photos and a time-lapse video of the final piece ‘fresh meat’.

Tonight (20th September) from 6pm, the seventh ReFound pop up shop launches in the new ReFound Building, showing the latest collection of restyled one off ‘works
of furniture’ by local artists and makers.
For this pop-up shop, I decided to ‘up-style’ the smaller ‘blank canvases’ of common tableware found in the kitchen. With each piece of tableware I sought to create an animal based design that would visually play with the food and add value to the piece without obstructing its primary
function.
Each piece is hand-painted using porcelain paint that ensures the piece is dishwasher safe once dry.
Below I have included pictures of the cat & robin final pieces along with their prices. Whilst I’ve created these exclusively for Refound, additional hand painted ‘tabletop animals’ can be made to order on request.
